Hi! My name is James Nikopoulos (that’s me below, attempting a snow angel).

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, then went to UCLA and the CUNY Graduate Center. In 2012 I moved to the capital of Kazakhstan to teach at a brand new institution of higher education. I worked as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Nazarbayev University for ten amazing years.

As a scholar, I like to examine the ways literature can address questions about how we communicate with each other and understand ourselves. I am especially obsessed with the topic of laughter. (Check out this episode of Counterpoint to hear me talk about offensive laughter.)

I also write essays, fiction, and poetry for whoever wants to read them, and I am an editor at ANGIME [Ahn-Ghee-Mae] an amazing new literary magazine run by my colleagues at Nazarbayev University. Please check it out when you can.

I am very fortunate to be represented by Hafizah Augustus Geter at Janklow and Nesbit.

If you’d like to get in touch you can reach me via email.

Thanks for dropping by.
